Workshop Two A
24/11/17
How does external air influence the body?
Research
For this workshop, I will be looking at how external air influences the body. Exploring this led me to take a closer look at what air is made up of; Air is a mixture of pure substances such as Oxygen, Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide and water.
The physical effects these elements come together to create is the pushing or pulling forces that move and misplace objects or surroundings.
"if you open the window and the curtains flutter, you know that air is coming through the window, pushing the curtains around." (Wonderopolis.org, 2017)
I discovered this quote whilst looking further into the anatomical side of air and felt it linked back to the sub-question in terms of movement created or encouraged by the physicality that air can possess. This also creates imagery, giving a sense of flowing motions and effortless energy which I can use as another source when in need of inspiration to emulate the effect of external air on the body.
I went on to continue looking at the anatomical aspect of air, focusing on atomic structures of some of the elements that make up air.

Having looked at the diagrams, I decided that they would be good a way to use a different choreographic tool such as imagery within my workshop because this allows me to not only research the question I am exploring but also expand on my choreography skills, trying new ways to discover interesting and dynamic movement.

Plan
-Spend One hour and a half or more if needed in this workshop.
- Using music 'Mountain Storm Ambience With Snowstorm & Cold Howling Wind Sounds For Sleeping And Relaxing' by Relaxing Soundzzz.
Task One- Using images of air particles to create a basic base phrases moving emulating the pattern of the atomic particle structures, focusing on the space and pattern.
Task Two- After creating base phrases for each particle, begin to focus on how the body can move the space/air using trial and error to combine and mix the mini sections together.
-Turn on camera and record phrase after creating them.

Evaluation
The process of this workshop was different to my others so far as this one required me to take more creative control and use my developing ability to have imagery, during Task One, to be the starting block of my movement. I found this an interesting way to work, it gave me the foundation material which I could build on so that within Task Two I was able to concentrate more on the quality of which I was moving, creating the feeling that I was shifting the air.
I spent two hours in the morning with a free studio creating four base phrases, looking at the diagrams or Task One and thinking of simple movements to lay out the pattern of which I could then build on.
As I moved on to Task Two, I decided not to stay as strictly to the pattern allowing so that the movement could kee flowing if it was not effective to keep as closely to the diagram points, however, this was also beacuse I wanted to make it so that the focus was not on the anotomical structures but on the how the body is moving the extrnal air, shifting it and manipulating it, so that the air in response is the opposing force against the bodies movement therefore creating the effect of how external air can influence the body.
I am pleased with the outcomes of the workshop and felt the music I was playing throughout the time I was in the studio helped me to focus on the material and how I could use my body to explore this sub-question.
